Hotel Customs

I am a great Eagles fan. for me it started with the epic Hotel California album in 1976, one of the best records of all times.

We all know the final lines of the title song, ”You can check out any time you like, But you can never leave!”

”You can check out any time you like
But you can never leave!”

The hotel is located in the town of Todos Santos on Baja California Sur, about 1,000 miles (1,609 km) south of San Diego and 48 miles (77 km) north of Cabo San Lucas.

While all signs seem to point to this hotel being the one, the reality is a bit more complicated. The similarities also could be a coincidence, even though many Eagles fans travel to the hotel in tribute.

“Baja is flip flop funky… Todos Santos… lined with artisans shops, and it is here that you will find The Hotel California.”

Vanity Fair

Think about it — If you rename any hotel in Mexico to “Hotel California” it will likely seem like the song is referencing that hotel. Desert highways, shimmering lights in the door, those are all common traits for hotels in Mexico during that period. The Todos Santos hotel is more compelling because it was built before the song.

We will likely never know for sure. Writer, composer, singer and Eagles frontman Don Henley has always refused to tell. Knowing what I know about Henley and the band that will remain and we will continue to try to find it.
