The most beautiful airports

PrivateFly site has rated the airports with the world’s most beautiful landing lanes. I have been at seven of these airports.

Sometimes the landing lane itself can be the highlight of the journey.

Here are the ten most beautiful approaches in the world:

1. Donegal Airport (Republic of Ireland)

Located in Ireland’s northernmost parts, surrounded by the North Atlantic on both sides. Inaugurated in 1986, and operated by an airline, in addition to private air traffic. Parts of the latest Starwars movie – The Last Jedi – were recorded in the area.

Through the clouds – the Wild Atlantic Way appears like an oasis. Beautiful clear blue water and the clearest sand you’ve ever seen.

2. Barra Airport (Scotland, UK)

Barra Airport on the outer Hebrides along the west coast of Scotland is the only airport in the world to land and start from a beach. And it is time to tide the tide – the river lanes are underwater.

Romantic remote and truly unique. Sea water splashes all over the planet as it lands, often in 3 inches (about 7.6 cm) of water. Sometimes you have to get rid of wet streamers and seawater puddles. Nowhere else in the world will you see a shark cleared from the runway.

3. Nice Airport (France)

The French Riviera #1 airport and the third most busy in France. Helicopter connection with nearby Monaco is available.

A magical approach above the sea with Iles de Lérins, and with the clouds hanging above the Alps like, from heaven, seems to be so close! Can you dream of a better prelude to landing in the world’s most beautiful city?

My home airport in my second country, France.

4. Queenstown Airport (Nya Zeeland)

Far into New Zealand’s southern interior, among mountains, lakes and rivers, is the country’s fourth largest airport. Not least, well-visited winter time when the surrounding mountains turn into first-class downhill runs.

I have flown to many places in the world, but coming through the clouds, amidst striking snowy mountains and the beautiful Lake Wakatipu located below you, is simply magical!

One of my personal favorite airports in the world. Amazing.

5. Saba Juancho E Yrasquin Airport (Netherlands Antilles)

The airport of the Caribbean volcanic island of Saba boasts one of the world’s shortest runways – just 400 meters long. Therefore, only small aircraft and helicopters can land here.

Reminds us of the epic pictures from the first King Kong movie. Landing a volcano is an ultimate challenge and visual experience.

6. Orlando Melbourne International Airport (USA)

Located along Florida’s space coast near Kennedy Space Center.

Beautiful Atlantic Ocean, pristine beaches, Melbourne Eau Gallie Bridges and Indian River Lagoon. And if you’re lucky you’ll see Kennedy Space Center!

7. Toronto Billy Bishop Airport (Canada)

Named after the Canadian war hero Billy Bishop, is located on an island just outside Toronto. The only way to reach the mainland is via ferry.

When the sun is right and you fly in at right angles, the great Lake Ontarios water becomes fleece emerald and sapphire colored, with Toronto’s massive delight in the second window.

8. London City Airport (UK)

London’s most centraly located airport and the city’s fifth busiest. Located between London’s two major financial districts, which is also the airport’s most diligent user.

The city silhouette at the entrance is filled with world-renowned landmarks. Like a plane in the middle of the planet’s most famous and most historic city.

9. St. Maarten Airport (Netherlands Antilles)

The airport, located on the Dutch side of Saint Martin, is known for being extremely close to the popular beach of Maho Beach.

There are not many places in the world where you have the sea, beaches, tourists and airplanes right next to each other. Experience the excitement of the stranger when the plan approaches the runway just above their heads. It’s simply unique!

10. Miami Airport (USA)

The busiest airport in Florida (45 million travelers in 2016) is also one of the United States’ largest flying hubs as the main junction between the United States and Latin America.

Whether west from the stunning Everglades National Park, or from the east with the adorable coastline and Miamis city silhouette, the approach to Miami is always a visual celebration.
