Swedish Customs is partly moving South

Today Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven and Minister of Civil Affairs, Ardalan Shekarabi (S), held a press conference at the Customs Office at Lernacken, outside Malmö, where it was told how the government should strength Customs presence in the South of Sweden (Skåne) on the bridge and border to Denmark and in Western Sweden.

Swedish Customs is one of the government authorities that is part of a decentralization of Swedish Govenrment functions. At least 31 FTEs will be moved from Stockholm to Malmö by 31 January 2019. In addition, 50 new customs officials will be located in Malmö to strengthen controls at the borders.

“Customs has an extremely important role to play in law enforcement in Sweden. The more we can stop at the border, the more opportunities for combating crime in the country, also financial crime”, says PM Stefan Löfven.
