While PM Theresa May is securing support back home President Juncker has offered the first positive sign from the EU for the potential amendments of the WA backstop text.

Jean-Claude Juncker, president of the European Commission; “I’m still an optimist by nature and believe in democratic institutions,” he said. “This leads me to believe there can and will be an agreement with the UK so we can move on and forward together with our new partnership. We’ll work day and night to make sure it happens and make sure we are ready if not.”

PM May in the Parliament today said that she is looking at a number of options to materially change the withdrawal agreement.

“The political declaration already references alternative arrangements and raises a number of proposals that can be addressed such as mutual recognition of trusted trader schemes,” she said.
