Papua New Guinea is the most linguistically diverse country in the world, with approximately 840 languages used.

Around 40% of the world’s languages are at risk of dying out, as some languages become less widespread with each new generation.

Organizations such as the United Nations are takings steps to continue these languages.

Thousands of languages are spoken worldwide, but only a fraction are used widely. In fact, the speakers of 23 langauages account for more than half of the total global population.

Despite this, there are still pockets around the globe that are rich in linguistic diversity. Here’s a look at the top 10 countries where the most languages are spoken.

These numbers include established and immigrant dialects.

Despite a population of just 8.8 million, Papua New Guinea comes in first with a total of 840 languages spoken across the country. To put things into perspective, that’s almost 12% of the world’s languages spoken in an area that’s roughly the size of California.

Second on the list is Indonesia, with 711 different languages used throughout the country. Like Papua New Guinea, a major factor that could explain its language diversity is its geography—Indonesia is made up of around 17 500 islands (although more than 7,000 of them are uninhabited).

Those who know me and/or read this blog know that I love football and that the club in my heart is my hometown team Malmö FF. i saw my first game at the stadium at the age of four and from the first second I was a Malmö FF fan for life.

We have had many good players, the most famous is naturally Zlatan Ibrahimovic. We have won the Swedish league more times (22) than any other club and we have played many times in europe, including a Champions League final (1979). We are the biggest club of Scandinavia.

My two favourite players of all times are Bosse Larsson (60-70s) and Markus Rosenberg, who cane back from an international career and was our amazing captain that lead Malmö FF back to Champions League.

Now the next one is here. The prodigal son is back. Today it was announced that central defender Pontus Jansson return to Malmö FF this summer.

Pontus started his career in Malmö FF and he will come back after a long successful career, including Torono in serie A, Leeds United and the lastbyears being the captain for Brentford in Premiere League. He has also been captain of the Swedish National Team.

Jansson is Malmö FF, he has the club in his blood, in his DNA. Even during hisvyears abroad he has between Premiere League games, travelled to Malmö FF home games to be in on the stands with us, the fans.

Braveheart is back – he will take us to Champions League again. This is a good day.
