I want to wish all customers, partners, colleagues & friends Seasons Greetings and a Happy Holiday Season.

It has been another extraordinary year in so many ways. On a personal level I got a new family in Maersk, adding so many brilliant new colleagues to my lifetime network.

I received a fantastic warm introduction from Aymeric Chandavoine & Rene Klein & our team. But this was only the start. Now I am looking forward to 2022.

Watch out in January when we launch our new Global Trade & Customs Consulting product – another step to take customer centricity & intergrated end-to-end services to an new level. All The Way.

Remember that Customs has never been more important than now, but it will be more important tomorrow.

But now, time for the family, some gluhwein & the famous Swedish Christmas smorgasbord.
See you in 2022.

Throughout the year, UNCTAD’s online trade facilitation courses helped officials from 27 countries gain knowledge and skills needed to implement World Trade Organization mandates.

The COVID-19 pandemic did a lot to highlight for everyone the critical role trade plays in our daily lives.

Empty store shelves and late or undelivered packages led many people to wonder for the first time how goods and services reached them – and especially what stopped or delayed delivery.

And, of course, they wondered how the situation could be improved.

This is not a new topic in the trade world. The simplification, modernization and harmonization of export and import processes is called trade facilitation, and it’s the subject of global agreements, research, conferences and discussions.

“But for the first time, trade facilitation was on the minds of many people not working in the world of global commerce,” said Shamika Sirimanne, UNCTAD ¨technology and logistics director.

Some amazing news before the holidays. Maersk has reached an agreement to acquire LF Logistic.

We welcome an exceptional company to the Maersk family. This is another logic step in our Integrator Strategy & drive to offer customers seamless end-to-end services. We go All The Way.

Today Maersk agreed to buy Hong Kong-based LF Logistics for $3.6 billion in an all-cash deal, as it seeks to expand beyond its core ocean freight business.

  • Part of Maersk’s aim to expand land-based services
  • Price implies LF Logistics value more than doubled since 2019
  • Maersk aims to more than double revenue at LF Logistics by 2026
  • Includes 223 warehouses, 10,000 employees in 14 Asian countries

The deal is one of the group’s largest takeovers to date and follows a series of acquisitions including e-commerce firms, a freight forwarder specialised in air freight and its smaller rival Hamburg Sud.

“The acquisition will further strengthen Maersk’s capabilities as an integrated container logistics company, offering global end-to-end supply chain solutions to its customers,”

With a network of 223 warehouses and around 10,000 employees in 14 Asian countries, LF Logistics provides land-based logistic services such as warehousing and trucking to over 250 global customers.

The company had revenue of $1.3 billion last year. Maersk said it expects to more than double the revenue and operating profit at the company by 2026.
