Barnier speaks out
“I made clear to Dominic Raab yesterday that we are not asking for a border between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK. What we need is checks on goods because the UK wants to leave the Single Market, the Customs Union and our common commercial policy.”
This is what Michel Barnier, the EU Brexit lead negotiator, said in the press conference and press release.
A border is a border, but it can be managed in many different ways. In this case, EU-UK post-Brexit, we need a border model that is state-of-the-art to make it work in practice.
