Maersk Customs Services offer an exciting new way to manage compliance in relation to the new U.S forced labor prevention act. Working with Altana AI we have deployed our combined knowledge into a solution.

The Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, signed into law December 2021, will take effect on June 22, 2022. The underlying principle of this legislation is the concept of rebuttable presumption. Importers will have the opportunity to rebut this presumption and will be required to provide extensive evidence to show that the goods were not made using forced labor. But, how do you go about this?

Importers lack access to information and documentation through the various tiers in their supply chain. They need the capability to analyze any risk implications and address the impact of illegal transshipment. As a result, importers will be faced with detentions and exclusions of merchandise which will have a devastating effect on their business models.
