July 14

France celebrates Bastille Day on July14th to commemorate the 1789 storming of the Bastille prison.

This pivotal event marked the symbolic start of the French Revolution and the end of absolute monarchy, ultimately paving the way for the establishment of the modern French Republic and its core values of liberty, equality, and fraternity.

Known officially in France as La Fête Nationale, the holiday serves to honor both the uprising against tyranny and the Fête de la Fédération of 1790, which celebrated national unity and reconciliation.

This year France also plays a football World Cup semifinal against Spain.
