Today, the EU and the US:
Signed a Memorandum of Understanding on a strategic partnership for critical minerals (the 16th bilateral instrument on critical raw materials).
Agreed on an Action Plan, which opens the door to a possible plurilateral trade initiative with global partners.

The aim is straightforward: work more closely to make supply chains for critical raw materials more secure and sustainable, across the whole value chain – from extraction to processing and recycling – while supporting investment and innovation.
The Action Plan outlines a broad set of tools to strengthen supply chain resilience and reinforce international action, including coordinated trade instruments and new market mechanisms.
It also focuses on common standards for mining, processing and recycling:
– Investment facilitation
– Joint research and innovation
– Stockpiling strategies
– Rapid response mechanisms to supply disruptions
This is another step towards closer EU–US coordination on an issue that is becoming increasingly important amid economic and geopolitical challenges.
Collaboration will continue to evolve on this, including in international fora.
