Another EUDR?

The Codified European Union Design Regulation (EUDR) has been published in the Official Journal.

Today marks a major milestone in the EU Design Reform with the publication of the codified European Union Design Regulation (EUDR) in the Official Journal of the European Union.

This codification process consolidates the relevant legal provisions into a single, unified EUDR, combining the previously unchanged articles from the Community Design Regulation (EC) No 6/2002 with the updated and new articles from the Amending Design Regulation (EU) 2024/2822. Practically, this means that going forward, everyone will refer to one comprehensive document rather than consulting multiple sources.

EU design protection system has undergone a profound update. It is now simpler, more accessible, and built for the digital age. The new framework provides, i.a.:
New terminology: ‘Community design’ is now ‘European Union design”
🔹More flexible protection covering modern design representation formats like animations, GUIs and 3D models
🔹Clearer and simpler rules making it easier to obtain and enforce design rights
🔹Fully electronic communication

Stay tuned for the EUIPO updates, guidance and tailored trainings about the new EU design protection system and changes introduced by the reform.

Applicability: Codified EUDR will apply from 1 July 2026.
