USCBP: Transshipments to watch for

Us Customs and Border Protection continiously warn international business for risks related to transshipment.

Transshipping – moving goods from one mode of transportation to another – is a common practice in trade. But what makes some instances of transshipment illegal? When it’s used to:

  • Avoid paying antidumping or countervailing duties
  • Evade Section 301 or 232 tariffs
  • Falsely claim preferential treatment by exploiting free trade agreements

Illegal transshipment has severe consequences – importers can face steep fines, inventory seizures, and criminal charges. Don’t take the risk.
