USCBP announces the follwoing message to industry:
”Think routing your goods through a low-tariff country changes the Country of Origin? Think again.
Simply repackaging or rerouting goods through other countries does NOT change their origin if they were made in China.
Illegal #transshipment isn’t a shortcut—it’s a crime with real consequences.
As the #Importer of Record, YOU are responsible for correctly declaring Country of Origin to CBP.
Get it wrong, and you risk:
• Inventory seizure
• Steep fines
• Criminal charges
• Business disruption
• Loss of import privileges
Don’t let bad advice jeopardize your business. Learn more ➡️ https://go.dhs.gov/wb6”
Border agencies are increasing their enforcement efforts related to tariffs, rules & regulations. Rules of origin is a strong focus when tariffs increase. Look at the clear USCBP message above.
